If you judged everyone in the world according to what people/bots/news outlets put on social media, all liberals would be far left nutjobs who want to destroy capitalist societies and want all boys to be girls, girls to be boys while simultaneously claiming gender is fluid and you can float in and out of genders as much as you want. You’d also think they’re all Jew hating, Muslim loving, tree hugging hippies. I’m sure a few of them are.
According to social media, all conservatives, with libertarians being lumped in with them, are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, fear mongering pieces of shit. I know a few that are. Mainstream and social media would have you believe the only way to save our country is to rid the country of all conservative ideals and beliefs. What’s interesting, is when you actually talk to someone on the other side, you’ll find out you essentially believe the same thing. And after some discussion, you’ll find out most of your fears regarding the other side are all manufactured. And by who? Social media.
Politics is definitely polarizing today, causing a massive split between the sides. Decades ago, when I was younger and had some interest in politics, the sides would simply debate on policy issues. Democrats wanted more government, more regulation, more taxes, etc. Republicans would SAY they wanted less government, less regulation and less taxes, but over time you’d learn Republicans of the time, were just the opposite side of the same coin. There wasn’t this overall feeling of impending doom if the other side won an election somewhere. The left wasn’t calling the right racist, sexist and all the other social diagnoses that we receive today. The right wasn’t accusing the left of being socialists and demanding we get ready for a real life Red Dawn scenario.
Enter the 21s Century. We were introduced to MySpace by our friend Tom. Tom was our first friend. He never called anyone any names. Tom never judged you. He didn’t diagnose you with some made up social term. He was the original online friend. There was no political drama. We didn’t see videos of people protesting, we didn’t see “challenges”. You know what I mean. Swallowing Tide Pods or getting out of a moving car to dance to an incredibly stupid song. Although the fail videos of the dance were pretty funny because we get to see just how stupid people really are. But we didn’t go onto our Myspace page to see our feeds be filled with political and social activist garbage every time we logged on.
Enter 2006. Up until this time, Facebook was solely used at Harvard from its inception in 2004, quickly moving to other universities. Then in 2006, it left the collegiate world and anyone over the age of 13 with a valid email address could have their very own Facebook page. Along with this comes the dreaded “Newsfeed”. You didn’t have to turn on the tv to watch CNN, CBS, FOX, NBC, or MSNBC. You were able to see everything going on in the world with a click of your mouse. Suddenly, young teenagers were immediately exposed to the evils of the world. In 2008, Barack Obama utilized Facebook to connect with voters, and this showed the potential Facebook had in the political realm. Interestingly enough, in case you didn’t know, in 2009, two Russian investors by the names of Yuri Milner and Alisher Usmanov invested $200 million into Facebook when it was valued at $10 billion.
Now, I wasn’t paying attention to most news on social media for years. I served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years and I had a front row seat to some insanity. I saw politics heavily involved in command decisions and I quickly lost a lot of respect for most politics and I lost a lot respect for government contractors and how money was thrown around and absolutely wasted. It wasn’t until the 2020 election cycle where I really started paying attention. The amount of sheer hatred for everything that was right of the radical left blew my mind. What became more interesting was what we witnessed in 2025 during the first year of Donald Trump’s second term.
I had always noticed the obvious tilt towards leftist thinking in social media, and anything or anyone associated with the political right was quickly diagnosed as either racist, sexist, xenophobic, transphobic or my favorite, a Nazi. One would think that after Donald Trump’s election and watching the left implode after carrying the transgender ideology as their modern civil rights battle, we would have seen a decline in trans activist pages, or feminist pages or anything from the far left on social media.
Now we come to the point of my rambling. Facebook pages like this:
CJ Joinin, Libertarian Party of Georgia, The Ghost, LGBTQ Nation, just to name a few. Over the last few months, my feed is regularly filled with these pages which regularly posts that demonize white people, men, anyone who voted for anyone other than who they they think you should have voted for. CJ Joinin is a “digital creator” with a profile picture of a black male wearing black shorts and a black tank top wearing UFC gloves, standing in a fighting stance. I’m going to go with he’s not an actual fighter, maybe a wannabe fighter. Kind of like how the Cleveland Browns are a wannabe NFL football team. Here’s some examples of his posts:
“First, ICE killed a black man(Keith Porter Jr.). They tested to see if they were going to get riots. Then, ICE killed a white woman(Renee Good). They tested the waters taking it a step further. Now, ICE killed a white, male, gun owner, and nurse(Alex Pretti). Y’all mourned a racist podcaster(Charlie Kirk) like he was the second coming, but can’t find even a silver of empathy for people being murdered by ICE-make it make sense.”
“Charlie Kirk deserves the same empathy, compassion, and respect in death that he gave to MLK, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, and their families.”
“Black MAGA really wants to be accepted by racists so bad.”
The posts from this guy only get worse. He posts some videos and this guy clearly is not educated. But how about LGBTQ Nation? Here’s a few posts:
“Trump-induced stress gave this nonbinary person chronic pain. They’re asking folks to ‘give a damn’.”
“Should the U.S. be prevented from competing in the Olympics like other lawless nations?”
How about this one from the Libertarian Party of Georgia Facebook page?
“If government agents can murder you for having a holstered pistol with a legal carry permit, then you don’t have the right to bear arms”. Or this lovely post from The Ghost:
ICE ARE PAID AGITATORS.
This one from The Ghost is even better:
I.C.E.= Innocent Citizens Erased.
These are just a few. I have gotten to a point where I’m contemplating leaving Facebook because their algorithm is set up to try to have its users see pages they are likely to engage with and in today’s political climate, knowing how much influence social media has on nearly everyone, this is not a recipe for peace. Social media has now become the metaphorical Highway to Hell. It’s used to influence elections, spread false information and clearly to cause insane amounts of division. Division? Who in the world would want to cause division in our great country? Stay tuned for my next rant.
